I will be analysing the "Top of the pops" magazine, as the magazine that I will be creating will be in the genre of pop.
The page is very busy and because pop music itself is bold, colourful (colour attracts attention) and that links to the style and layout of this front cover: bold and big main flash across the middle of the page- striking and easy to relate to the main picture. The main sells around the page also help to create a busy effect and to enlighten you as to how many celebrities they have interviewed or even just taken pictures of. The main picture is the Jonas Brothers and they are smiling and are presented very neat, almost to suggest that they are clean and suitable for teenagers to have a liking for them. There are not many colour associations apart from perhaps the use of the background being blue and quite a few of the text boxes being pink. The use of pink and the Jonas brothers as they are seen as the "cool celebrities” at the moment and also the use of hearts could back this- love for them as actors. The text has a very Strong legibility as it is simple and mostly bold and also in text boxes. The editors have made no attempt to stop part of the picture covering the masthead this could suggest that they are brand confident as they feel that enough people know the magazine well enough to know what it is without seeing the whole of the masthead. The font of the writing is modern and large also it is sans serif which makes it readable. The target audience is really likely to be teenage girls up to about the oldest 16, also it is mainly relevant to the breadwinner in the household so the socio-economic classifications does not apply to this magazine. I think the psychographic audience is mainly main streamers as the other categories don't really applt to top of the pops. The antionality is only Enagland as there is no indication at to other countries and on the barcode there is only the price in pounds £. The language is humorous, informal and very teenage like e.g. "OMG!" to abbreviate because it wouldn't be as modern if you put in full " Oh my god!", there is also alot of punctuation to enhance excitement. The image of The Jonas Brothers, suggests that they are a good family and that not all families today are broken as that may be the view of a lot of teenagers. there is a good contrast between The Jonas Brothers and Chris Brown and Zac Effron, the brothers have heavy clothing on, they are all wearing dark colours and not alot of skin showing in contrast to Chris Brown is wearing minimum clothing with none actually on show, and Zac Effron has a tight vest shirt on with his arms obviously tensed.
